Wild Instincts Scentwork Unit

A collaborative pet dog detection programme by Sunflower K9 Dog Training and Rooted Dog Training

More than just scentwork classes.

Wild Instincts is a project that has grown from two dog trainers’ mutual love for scentwork and having dogs that are worlds apart in their personalities and behaviour but share the same instinct and enthusiasm for detection.

We created Wild Instincts to help other dogs and their humans enjoy spending time learning together whilst building on communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. It also provides an inclusive space where you don’t have to have a specific breed to fit in and dogs from all walks of life are welcome.

Our goal is to create a community where we celebrate each and every team that walks through the door, and help each dog discover the amazing things they can do and what they’re capable of in their own unique ways.

Discover the instinct. Build the partnership. Follow the scent.

Our levelled scentwork programme guides dogs and handlers through a progressive journey of learning, from beginner foundations to advanced search skills. Whether your dog is young or in their senior years, energetic, nervous, reactive, or simply loves to work, scentwork provides a mentally enriching outlet that builds focus, resilience, and partnership.

We believe every dog possesses natural instincts worth nurturing. Our courses develop clear communication, problem-solving skills, and real-world search confidence in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Through carefully designed exercises, practical search scenarios, and achievable milestones, handlers gain the knowledge and skills to progress at their own pace while strengthening the bond with their dog every step of the way.
